I thought the editing could have been better. I believe the authors do a disservice in two ways. The first is suggesting that someone can follow their directions for self-defense, and that's all you need to know - false sense of security. The other is listing books every man should read without giving a reason for each book. TOP REVIEWER. Very interesting reading. I am learning a ton of way to deal other people and how a real gentlemen must behave himself.
I wish I had that book when I was a teenager. Great gift idea for that special growing teenager of your. You can be sure Dad will also read it. Read it, and gave a copy to each of my groomsmen. I believe this book is written for the hopes that the "modern" man will get reacquainted with its roots of chivalry, integrity, and pride on manly traditions.
Men: add this to your collection. This is a great book to give any young man - it covers everything you can think of. Plenty of lighthearted humour mixed with a good dose of c'mon sense on how to be a masculine, responsible man.
awesome book, definitely a great picture of what real manhood is like. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. The second half of the 20th century has led to a pretty drastic social revolution, which while often positive, led to certain aspects of gender roles no longer being passed down, as in the past.
The book aims to redress this - when it comes to some basic skills and attitudes that define manliness from the authors' point of view. While this may sound chauvinist, it is most certainly nothing of the kind; the authors simply believe that in many cases the baby was thrown out with the bathwater and that many modern men never fully transition into adulthood, like they should.
The book covers various aspects, from dress and grooming, leadership, courtship and appropriate manners in treating the opposite gender, raising children, financial independence, etc. A lot of it has to do with taking appropriate care and attention and embracing, rather than shirking one's responsibilities. The book will teach those still not so enlightened, how to tie a tie properly, how to defend oneself or a lady's honour , how to make a fire while camping, or how to deliver a baby in an emergency, as well as a myriad of other skills.
And while the reading of the book per se is unlikely to suffice, taking on the advertised attitude and practicing it, will probably lead to the desired results. For quite some readers lots of advice contained in the book is not wholly new but I would venture that every 18 year old - and many older males - would truly benefit from spending some time with the book and pondering the advice contained therein.
I found reading this book incredibly enjoyable. Of course lots of the advice it gives is straightforward and just confirms what common sense already tells you to do. However, the book gives a great overview of what modern manhood entails.
It also allows you to become a better man by comparing your actual behaviour in different situations to how you ideally should behave. The book might sometimes be a bit overly old fashioned and very American, but that doesn't make it any less helpful at all. I also found the fighting techniques described in the book quite entertaining - obviously you won't be able to win an unprovoked pub fight if all your preparation was reading books!
All in all, the book is entertaining to read and allows you to identify and work towards eliminating potential weaknesses. A good read for any man interested in continuous self-improvement and personal development. The book of the website. The website is definitely worth a look and contains much of the book's content, plus a lot more; ie podcasts, articles, videos etc.
The author is from the States so the content is not aimed at this side of the pond, but much does translate to British sensibilities. Bought this for the husband as a gift who never read it. I thought its a great gift and has loads of bits and bats about men. The shaving section is superb! Report abuse. Light hearted where it needed to be, I didn't feel bogged down with info at any point.

Contact us: penileclinic. I need my angst and my bitterness. What makes us so much greater than you, and more profound than you, is that we recognize this. When you read Return of Kings , you are confronted with a raw, bracing, bitch-slapping experience. It is an experience bristling with emotion, sexual energy, anxiety, angst, suffering, and mania.
And it is well that it should be so. For this is the raw energy of the masculine masses bubbling forth in all its uncontrolled intensity. We celebrate that. We revel in that. We offer danger. They offer platitudes. We are the unloved, the unwanted, the dispossessed, and the downtrodden. And our message is more sincere, more honest, and more real, than anything you can offer.
And it is we, Kate and Brett, who will inherit the earth. Not you. To paraphrase Robert De Niro in Cape Fear : we can out-write you, we can out-fuck you, we can out-run you, and we can out-philosophize you.
Another credibility issue arises from the worldview and lifestyle of the McKays. Kate McKay graduated from Brigham Young University. A photo of the couple , combined with this other information, seems to indicate that they are practicing Mormons.
I want to be very clear here that I would never criticize anyone solely on the basis of their background, faith, or ethnicity. A major part of the male experience is the pursuit and conquest of women. To deny that is delusional. AoM offers zero advice on the topic of recreational sex.

I greatly appreciate a podcast which tends to provide a noble vision of manliness, with bravado, greatness and guts. There is something inside every man and boy that wants to be great, courageous, intelligent, strong, heroic, worthy, and true.
I believe this is embedded in every male our Maker, and this is the kind of real man that real women desire. We are living in a day where wisdom, grit, discipline, and decency are forgotten, along with the great stories and role models that were commonly known in earlier times.
In their place is substituted folly, triviality, and indulgence in undeserved pleasure. So yes, this podcast is appreciated. There are deal-breakers for me though. All I see is the beginning of the new article. While reading an article, a pop up window opened telling me to click "OK" to claim some prize.
There was no other option to close the window. There was bad grammar in the message and it identified me as a Comcast user, which I am not. I would also like to know the app functions correctly before signing up. Beneath the blatant Manliness theme, some of the best articles come when more of self improvement and reflection theme is seen. They write beautifully worded and connected articles, have some of the most thought-provoking podcasts, and are my personal favorite publishers for entertainment.
Never have I seen any useless content come from these guys. They always write with a purpose, and always write for others benefit.
